A Treat-rific Day!

Today we had two wonderful treats in one day! Boy were we lucky!

The fun started this afternoon when we had a visit with two-thirds of the Bergman clan. Rajean brought Dallas over to meet us! He is such a cute little guy. I am about 100% sure that he is going to be a football player! Rajean's pictures on her blog don't do his size justice. He was a little fussy when they got here, but Rajean fed him and he was as happy as a lark after that. It was great to finally get to meet the little guy in person, but it is still hard to believe my friend Rajean is a Mom!

We got our second treat tonight when Bill and Jennie took us out to thank us for watching their kids for a week while they were in Vegas. Actually they brought me back a necklace and bracelet from the trip to thank me, but decided to take Jacob out since he is so hard to shop for, and I got to enjoy it too! I wasn't about to complain! They took us to a new restaurant in Indy called Fogo de Chao. It is a Brazilian Steakhouse and different than any restuarant I've ever been to. If you like meat, it is the place for you! You start with salad, then comes the meat course. The side dishes are in the middle of the table family-style, each person has a card at their seat that has a red and green side. All of these servers (they call them gauchos) walk around the dining room with skewers of meat and knives asking people that have their green side up if they want the type of meat they have (whether it is filet, bacon wrapped chicken, sausage, lamb, etc). They cut it off of the skewer and put it right on your plate. They keep the meat coming until you turn your card over to the red side, you eat, and then the meat madness begins. I seriously think they had a server for every person eating there. It really is an experience you can't even believe until you see it! We had dessert, molten chocolate cake with ice cream, and the walked around Monument Circle. A good time was had by all, not to mention a lot of meat eaten!

I know catching up on my homework tomorrow, is not going to be nearly as fun!

Who Came Up With the Bright Idea for Summer School Anyway!

Masters classes are officially in full swing, and let me tell ya, I already have read enough about educational psychology to last me my entire life! I had the bright idea to take two classes at once, and while I know I can finish, I might be completely burnt out my the day the last projects are due fitting 15 weeks worth of work into just 5 weeks is insane! I definitely have July 18th marked on my calendar!

Since they are online classes you have to do the required number of "discussion board" postings each week, and I am 100% positive some people have to sit at their computers with their thesaurus so they can use as many 15 letter words as possible in each posting. It's hard to turn off the first grade teacher writing and try to write like a college student again, but I'm sure I'll get back in the swing of it before the next class starts in August!

On a lighter note we had a nice weekend, taking a needed break from school work. Since our second anniversary (I know it doesn't seem like two years at all!) was Tuesday and we had homework and baseball games to go to we had a special "date" Friday night. We went to an Italian restaurant in Broad Ripple called Mama Carolla's. It was a really nice place, with a cute garden area where you can eat outside. I would defintiely go back again, we even had a brush with "fame" (well Indiana "fame"). While we were sitting in the garden finishing our dinner these guys that looked like secret service men walked through with someone between them. It was Governor Mitch Daniels! We couldn't believe it My Man Mitch was eating at the same restaurant as us, but the waitress informed us he goes there a lot. The funniest part was that as we were leaving, we walked back through the inside of the restaurant to get to the car. Mitch was sitting in the next room eating with his party and two of his huge body guards were sitting at a very very small table outside the room eating together. It looked like they were on a little bodyguard date. You had to see it!

Busy, Busy Bees...

That's what I've felt like for the past few weeks. I'm sorry its been so long since my last post, but I just haven't gotten around to sitting down at the computer! Anyway, enough with the excuses. Here's a recap of what's been going on with KP since my last post:

**We went to the Athletic Club, became members, and started a summer workout regimen. Let's hope that we can knock-out a few pounds before school starts again. Jacob loves to work out, and he has to keep me accountable and pumped up about it. Hopefully I'll see some results soon, that would definitely keep me dedicated to the eliptical.

**Jacob's cousin Crystal got married. Jacob was an usher, and he, Ben, and Leah played and sang a song during the ceremony that sounded great. We hope she and Jeremy are very happy together. It was a beautiful pink and black affair that she has had planned since she was a kid, and other than the torrential rainfall that day, came off without a hitch.

**I went to a reading teachers conference in Indianapolis on Monday and Tuesday.

**We taught Vacation Bible School at church all last week. We had about 10-13 third graders every night. The kids always have a blast. But, it is a lot of work for the teachers and I was definitely ready for the last night Friday.

**We house/babysat for Bill and Jennie all week. They have three kids ages 14-2 and needless to say, we jumped head first into temporary parenthood. There was never a dull moment and we learned lots of things that we would and wouldn't do with our own kids!

**Sunday we got home from sitting and had the VBS program at church, and celebrated Father's Day with Jay at lunch and with my Dad at dinner.

**Today we unpacked, did laundry, worked out (yes, a week later, and I haven't quit yet!), and grocery shopping (since we weren't home all week-we had NO food). And the grand finale for the day-my masters classes started. Tomorrow I get to delve into all of the readings and reflections, and assignments for the week. I can hardly wait!

Ahh...Spa Day

Today I had a day of rest and relaxation with my mother-in-law, Cathy. Last Fall Break in lieu of going on a trip my darling husband surprised me with a day at a spa in Greenfield. I truly enjoyed it and knew that Cathy would love such a treat. We decided that we would give her a gift certificate as a Christmas gift. We finally got around to scheduling her day for her today, and Jacob decided I needed a day of pampering too (yes I know he's the best!) so I should go along with her. Obviously I didn't argue for a second, and so this morning we started our day of fun at Ye Ole Head Shoppe and Spa in Greenfield.

We each got a 60 minute deep tissue massage. Since I never had professional massage before I was wondering what this would be like. Loved it. If you've never had one before you should try it. I was relaxed and ready for a nap by the end, and the 60 minutes flew by. The massage therapist even found that I had a vertebrae out of place and put it back in without all the cracking of a chiropractor. I also learned that the deep tissue type of massage is not only relaxing but is also good for the inside of your body too. It helps to clean out all of the toxins in your muscles. Who knew!

Next up was a facial. The aesthetician put a couple masks on my face, put the steam on, and even cleaned out some of my clogged pores. I don't think my face has ever been so smooth or bright!

Last was the pedicure and spa lunch. I choose a ham and cheese sandwich, potato salad and bottled water from the "spa menu". The food was better that I thought it would be. The bread on the sandwich tasted like it had been baked with garlic and herbs. Yum-o. I ate my lunch while getting my tootsies done. I think the pedicure was my favorite part of the whole process, I love putting my feet in the jetted foot bath, the exfoliating, the parafin wax, my red polish, I even love when they smooth out the bottoms of your feet!

My New Red Tootsies

After the wonderful spa day came to an end we met Jacob's Dad and Grandma for dinner in Greenfield and headed home. If only I could stay so soft and relaxed all the time!

The Weekend: Summer Vacation Style

This weekend didn't bring any tropical vacations for the Shivelys, but it did bring a lot of time in the car traveling from place to place.

Saturday afternoon took us to commencement at Waldron High School for Jacob to say goodbye to some of his favorite (and an extra-excited goodbye to some of his least favorite) students. We had to sneak out of the graduation early to meet my in-laws at their house to leave for our next stop. We made the hour and a half trip south with them to Floyds Knobs, Indiana (yes that really is the name of a city) for our friend Jeff's wedding. Jeff was a groomsman in our wedding and it was nice to see him and a few others we hadn't seen in the last few years since our cermony. We hope Jeff and Lauren are very happy together! We got home late Saturday night and definitely slept good after our afternoon in the car.

Today we had to get up and go to church, caught part of some of Jacob's younger baseball players playing a summer game at the Babe Ruth park, and then head to Greenwood for a graduation open house. My cousin Austin graduated from Roncalli Saturday and his open house was this afternoon. Tonight I went with Jacob to church to hear him practice with Ben and Leah for their performance at their cousin's wedding this coming weekend. More details on that ceremony later.

So the excitement of the weekend is over, what will I do with myself Monday? I don't know if I can handle staying home with nothing to do!
