Weekend Update

Okay, so it might not be as entertaining as SNL's "Weekend Update", but in an effort to be a better blogger, I thought I'd update you on the going's on.

Friday night we went to the football game, which turned out to be a total massacre. It was packed. I think almost everyone in Shelbyville was at the game. We got there 45 minutes early and barely found a seat! Anyway, the Golden Bears got pummeled (which I have to admit I wasn't sad about) by like 30 points. So much for that undefeated season! Afterwards we went out for Pizza with Jim and Deb, and caught up on the WHS happenings.

Yesterday Jacob had praise band practice at church, so I stayed home in the morning and cleaned and did laundry. Exciting huh! In the afternoon we made a trip to the grocery store, worked on homework and hit Taco Bell for dinner, before heading over to my parents' to visit with them and my sister since she was home for the weekend.

Today flew by. We went out for breakfast, went to church, went out for lunch. Tonight we had the whole Shively clan over for football and dinner. It was a little cramped, but I think everyone had a good time (despite the Colts losing miserably). I got to try out some recipes I hadn't made before, and have some apple crisp left over for my lunch tomorrow!

It's a short week at school this week, so hopefully it feels short (sometimes they're the longest!). You might not have laughed as hard as you would have to Tina Fey, but hopefully you got a little enjoyment out of reading this post!

I'm Still Alive (I Promise!)

The past couple weeks feel like they have been a whirlwind of nothingness and craziness at the same time (Is that even possible?!) Last week was pretty boring, bu the past few days have been different. This week brought parent conferences on Wednesday, definitely not something I look forward to. I told a parent yesterday that I think the teachers (or at least me) are more nervous than the parents! Conferences went well, 14 out of my 15 students showed up, and the one that didn't was absent from school that day, so I thought it was a good turn-out, no one yelled or cried (a success in my book!). The hardest part is always staying late and the getting back up and going back to work on Thursday and Friday!

This afternoon I had a hair appointment, and sat down to work on my group project that is so close to being finished, as I seem to do every evening these days. I can't even tell you how happy I will be when we turn this thing in! I have definitely learned a lot about myself during the course of this project, namely, that I am a control freak! I was actually pleased that I got put into the position as informal group leader, because I don't think I could trust a perfect stranger to turn something in with my name on it without ever speaking to them! It ended up that I put everyone's input into a PowerPoint presentation, complete with voice narration by yours truly (that was tricky), and it is in the final revision stages. If you ever need a presentation on differentiated instruction let me know!

Tomorrow night we are planning to go to the SHS football game. I guess its a big deal, something about an undefeated season/conference championship is at stake. All I know is I have to wear black and layers (it actually felt like fall today), and cheer for the Golden Bears! That's about all we have planned for weekend excitement so far. If I don't update in the next few days, have a great weekend!

Here we go again...

Sadly the weekend is coming to an end and it's back to work tomorrow morning. Ugh! I shouldn't complain, but getting up early does not agree with me! How many days until fall break?

Anyway, since I haven't updated in a while I thought I'd give you a glimpse into the latest happennings with the Shivelys.

I have been working on a group project in the masters class I'm taking right now. Who ever decided group work online was a good idea has got to be clueless. I'm way too much of a control freak, and will be happy when the project is done. I think it will turn out okay, it is just a pain to communicate with your group members over a discussion board.

Friday night we made it a night out to downtown Indy. We went to the Ram to eat and visited a few shops. I was nice to get out of Shelbyville for an evening!

School has been humming along. Last week we had picture day, I got a new kiddo (I'm only up to 15 kids -definitely can't complain), enjoyed the first few fall-like days, and a half-day Friday. This week should be less eventful, but conferences are coming soon, so I'll be busy with report cards, and getting ready for parents. It is hard to believe the year is almost a quarter over!

Well I'd better get to bed, It will be time to get up before you know it! Happy Monday!
