We had a great relaxing day off of school today. Thanks to all of you well-wishers! And yes, we do have to go back to school Tuesday. Somehow, knowing you got an extra day off makes it a little easier to go back to work tomorrow!
However, I'm writing about going back to school for an entirely different reason. It has come to the time for both of us to go back to school and work on our master's degrees. Tonight we went to an info session in Indianapolis for Ball State's graduate programs and are strongly considering going this route. The only thing is that the entire program in online, and being the old fashioned gal I am (sometimes it feels like college was 40 years ago instead of 4!) I have never taken an online class-all of my classes were on campus face-to-face with a real professor. Crazy I know! So I am looking to you fellow bloggers for advice. Have you taken online classes? What did you think of them? I like the idea of not having to drive to a campus in the evenings after school, but I would love to hear what wisdom you have for us. So thanks in advance for your help!
Oh yeah, congrats to my Butler Bulldogs: the #8 men's basketball team in the nation! Go Dawgs!

Hey Gal...first of all...best of luck with going back to school!
My advice for on-line classes is this: if the class has very clear deadlines, I think they are much easier to complete. If there are not specific deadlines (i.e. make sure everything is completed by the end of the semester), it is much harder to keep on track. I took one on-line class while at ISU. The only deadlines I had were 1) finish the mid-term 2 days before the final, and 2) finish the final by the end of the course. It was very hard for me to make myself do the work.
Just my thoughts...hope they help!
Wow.. masters all ready?!?! Sheesh.. I am still looking for that first "real" job since college!! On-line.. ugh! I only took one and it was absolutely horrible!! It was a literature class and we had to read like 24 short stories by the end of the semester... with NO deadlines! Needless to say, I read 24 short stories along with writing 24 essays the week before semester ended. I agree with Rajean.. clear cut deadlines are a must... or at least for the procrastinator in me! :) Good luck!
PS.. what are you getting it in.. just certification or what?
Hi Kristen!
Couple things...
1. I started a blog as well, since it seems like everyone is having so much fun!
2. I'm currently working on my master's as well, and my entire program is online through Indiana Wesleyan. I really like it, because I can work on it when I have time (like during my prep), but I don't have to deal with the hassle of driving somewhere a couple nights a week. In the end, though, it probably depends on the program. Mine is fairly rigid about due dates and stuff, which helps.
Thanks gals for the input. I'm not sure about the deadline stuff yet. I guess I should find out! I looking at a Masters in Elementary Ed with a Gifted and Talented license. It is the same amount of hours as a regular El. Ed. masters plus you get a G/T license. I'm also considering the Indiana Weslyan route, but need to find out what the differences are! So many choices so little time! Thanks again!
I'm not sure about Indiana Wesleyan's El Ed stuff, but overall it's pretty good. I'll be finished in a year and a half, as opposed to 3 years, AND it cost about half as much as the other 2 program I was looking at (IUPUI and ISU). Since Chris is still working on his classes for special ed licensure (he's not done until April), money was a fairly important issue for us!
